Report: Bighill released by NFL’s Saints

TORONTO — Former BC Lions linebacker Adam Bighill has been released by the NFL’s New Orleans Saints, according to multiple reports.

Justin Dunk of 3 Down Nation was the first to report the news, as the 29-year-old linebacker becomes a free agent with the option to return to the Canadian Football League.

Bighill is a four-time CFL All-Star and five-time West Division All-Star, amassing 489 defensive tackles in 99 games over six seasons with the team. He played in 16 or more games in five of his six seasons on this side of the border, all with the BC Lions.

While Bighill could continue to pursue NFL opportunities, many are already linking him to the Lions should he opt to return to Canada. BC has always been Bighill’s CFL home, while the team has an opening at WILL linebacker following the off-season departure of Micah Awe.

In addition to being one of the league’s steadiest tacklers, Bighill also accumulated 33 sacks, eight interceptions, eight forced fumbles and a touchdown throughout his Lions career.

Bighill first joined the league in 2011 following a career at Central Washington.
