Campbell on Harris injury: ‘We don’t think it is overly serious’

OTTAWA — Ottawa REDBLACKS fans are hoping that an injury to quarterback Trevor Harris looked a lot worse than it really was.  Harris went down in the first quarter with what appeared to be a leg injury.

Harris started Ottawa’s pre-season opener under centre but as the teams headed into the locker room for halftime, head coach Rick Campbell indicated that the injury may not be as bad as initially suspected.

“I have been told that it is not an overly serious thing,” Campbell told Matthew Scianitti of TSN at halftime.  “We are going to hold him out of the rest of this game — there was debate on whether he could come back or not but we don’t think it is overly serious.”

As the third quarter came to a close, Harris was seen in street clothes riding a bike on the sidelines as he worked out the injury.

Harris, who enters the season as the undisputed starter in Ottawa, dropped back for a pass midway through the first quarter and was hit by defensive back Chris Ackie who was closing in for a sack.  Harris, who was intercepted on the play, stayed on the ground before being helped off the field and escorted to the locker room.
