Ticats officially sign former all-star CB Delvin Breaux

HAMILTON — The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have reunited with veteran defensive back Delvin Breaux who has joined the club in the middle of their Western road swing.

A veteran of two CFL seasons in 2013 and 2014, Breaux is coming off a stint with the NFL’s New Orleans Saints, but was sidelined the entire 2017 season after suffering a leg injury in training camp.

He played with the Saints from 2015 to 2017, appearing in 22 games in 2015 and 2016 before missing the 2017 season due to injury. With the Saints, the 6-foot-1, 210-pound defensive back registered 66 total tackles, 20 passes defended, three interceptions and one fumble recovery. Breaux was the Saints’ 2015 recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award presented to select players in the NFL who are voted by their teammates as role models of inspiration, sportsmanship and courage.

Now 28, Breaux was widely regarded as shutdown defensive back on this side of the border in 2014, earning a CFL All-Star nod and helping the Ticats play in their second straight Grey Cup.

The Ticats remain in Alberta this week, where they’ll aim for their first win of 2018 in a clash against the Edmonton Eskimos Friday night. It’s unclear whether Breaux, whose signing has yet to be confirmed, will join the team before then.
