MONTREAL — You wouldn’t have been able to tell by his on-field performance or post-game interview, but Friday’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers win in Montreal was quarterback Chris Streveler’s first as a professional.

The 23-year-old Bomber pivot was poised under centre and pretty much perfect on paper: 22 of 28 passes completed for 246 yards and a trio of touchdowns.

“I’ve got to give a lot of credit to the game plan,” Streveler told TSN‘s John Lu following Winnipeg’s 56-10 win. “Our coaches do a great job putting players in positions to make plays, (and) nobody cares who’s rushing, who’s passing, as long as we’re putting points on the board.”

A number of Bombers looked sharp in the victory; Andrew Harris racked up 116 all-purpose yards, Streveler himself ran for a further 98 yards and a touchdown, Bryan Bennett threw and ran well in a relief effort under centre and Kienan LaFrance racked up 50 yards and a fourth-quarter major on the ground.

The University of South Dakota product came out firing early on Friday with a 15-play drive that culminated in a Justin Medlock chip-shot field goal.

“To get that ball moving and work down the field was great for our offence,” continued Winnipeg’s quarterback. “It was a great way to set the tone, a 15-play drive is a credit to the offensive line, they set the tone and moved the line up front.”

Streveler became the first rookie quarterback directly out of college since the legendary Anthony Calvillo to throw for three touchdowns in each of his first two professional games.

“I don’t really care about any of that — I’m just happy with the win,” said Streveler when reminded of the fact by Lu. “You play to win, (whether) you win by one, or by more than one, that’s what I’m worried about. Darvin (Adams) had a great TD pass today too. We spread the ball around well here, and have a lot of good players.”

Streveler and co. will look to build on their statement victory next week, when they will travel to Tim Horton’s Field to face the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday Night Football (7 p.m. ET).
