#TotalPickEm: Week 3 Recap

Week 3 brought us ridiculous catches, athletic hurdles and the first ‘live mic’ game of 2018.

It also brought us some tough decision in #TotalPickEm, so let’s take a look at how the voting public fared.

The week began in Calgary, where the Stampeders entertained the Ottawa REDBLACKS on Thursday Night Football.

The James Barker Band’s half-time performance proved to be a highlight on a night of inconsistent offence, as the Stamps pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 24-14 victory. Early in Week 3, #TotalPickem players who invested in the home favourites were looking good.

Friday Night Football’s doubleheader began in Hamilton, with the red-hot Ticats finally playing host to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in front of an adoring crowd of 23,721.

Though it was a virtual toss-up amongst fans, all our CFL.ca writers predicted Hamilton’s eventual 31-17 win. Jeremiah Masoli threw for 369 yards, Hamilton’s D was strong for three-plus quarters…all things considered, the Ticats could make some noise during a Week-4 trip to Regina.

The nightcap featured the Edmonton Eskimos and BC Lions in Alberta.

The Esks were heavy favourites at home, and overcame an early deficit to tame the Lions by a decisive 41-22 score; Edmonton running back C.J. Gable went off for 165 yards on the ground, and Mike Benevides’s defence stifled Jonathon Jennings throughout the night.

Week 3’s final contest pitted the Saskatchewan Roughriders against the Montreal Alouettes in a game featuring two struggling teams.

If there is that one person in your office repeatedly saying they “called it,” you ought to call them out. A whopping 96 per cent  of voters took Saturday’s game wrong, putting their faith in the Chris Jones machine instead of a hungry, proud Alouettes defence which wanted to respond following an embarrassing Week 2 loss.

The result: A 23-17 Montreal win. The club’s first in 10 months. Just as we all expected.

Judging by the numbers, most people went either 2- or 3-for-4 on the week.

Atop the global leaderboard, eyeofthetigercats lost possession of first place after picking Saskatchewan on Saturday; oilslick now holds pole position with a perfect 12-0 prediction record.
