MONTREAL — If there was one man who deserved to smile on Friday night at Percival Molson Stadium, it was Ottawa REDBLACKS fullback J.C. Beaulieu.

The 28 year-old from Trois Rivieres, Que. hauled in his second-career CFL touchdown, his new team dumped his old team via 28-18 decision, and he got to do it all in front of friends and family.

“I’m happy,” said Beaulieu following Ottawa’s fifth-straight road win in Montreal. “Since the beginning of the season, I dropped two balls. Today, no drops, I did my assignments. I’m happy.

“I was like ‘ah, ah, don’t drop it, don’t drop it, don’t drop it,'” laughed Beaulieu of his wide-open touchdown early in the ballgame. “It was a perfect ball. Perfect play.”

With his dad, girlfriend, extended family and friends in attendance, Beaulieu matched his entire receiving total as an Alouette last season — 50 yards — in Friday’s game.

When asked if he was the primary receiver on the play call that led to his touchdown, the Sherbrooke alum chuckled.

“On the touchdown? No,” he laughed. “Since the beginning of the season, they said ‘hey, on this play they might drop you on coverage’…”

The win was much-needed for the REDBLACKS following last week’s 24-14 defeat in Calgary, and once again sets Rick Campbell’s team on a course to compete for the East Division crown.

“It’s big. I think you’ve gotta rebound, you gotta keep moving forward,” said Campbell. “There’s lots to learn from and get better from (this game), but it’s a big thing to win on the road against your own division. It’s a big win, and now we’ve gotta move forward.”

The REDBLACKS will now return home for a date with the league-leading Calgary Stampeders (3-0) on next week’s edition of Thursday Night Football (Jun. 12, 7:30 p.m. ET).
