The Winnipeg Blue Bombers, in partnership with the Purolator Tackle Hunger program, raised the equivalent of 90,000 pounds of food at their July 7th game against BC.
More than 360 Winnipeg fans made donations or brought non-perishable food items which went to Winnipeg Harvest, a local non-profit food distribution and training centre.
“Once again, Manitobans have shown their unmatched generosity in supporting the Purolator Tackle Hunger initiative,” said Blue Bombers president and CEO Wade Miller. “The food and funds donated will help in a big way those in our community affected by hunger, and we’d like to thank every fan that contributed.”

Now into its 16th season, Purolator’s Tackle Hunger program collects food and raises funds and awareness for local food banks across Canada.
Last year, the program raised 1.5 million pounds of food; Winnipeg fans have accounted for over 1.3 million pounds since 2003.
This year’s donations come at a crucial time for Winnipeg Harvest.
“The summer months always see a drop in food donations for Winnipeg Harvest, so an event like Tackle Hunger makes a huge difference to the thousands of people who are using food banks,” said Keren Taylor-Hughes, its CEO. “We’re so thankful to partner with Purolator Tackle Hunger and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to continue the work we do—fighting hunger and feeding hope.”
The next Purolator Tackle Hunger Game Day Food Drive will take place this week, when the BC Lions host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
