CFL Game Time: Ottawa Edition x2!

It’s week 5 of CFL football and this week our team was back in the beautiful Ottawa! There are only two cities that host Thursday Night Football twice this summer, Hamilton (see you bahds next week) and Ottawa. On our second trip to town we arrived on Wednesday to grab some interviews for you guys with both the REDBLACKS and the Stamps. We shot a 20Q with William Powell for a future episode of CFL Game Time and despite his sometimes reserved nature in media scrums, his 20Q was pretty jokes. We also grabbed this interview with QB Bo Levi Mitchell

The last time we were in Ottawa our crew hit up BBQ joint Fatboys for dinner but this trip we mixed it up and went to SmoQue… another awesome BBQ spot. If you visit I recommend the pulled pork and my colleagues loved the jerk chicken – the beans and the mac and cheese were also delish. Here is most of our CFL Game Time crew walking through the market to dinner. They insisted we take the photo of the sign backward…because of course.

Thursday afternoon Davis and I were ready for a little CFL Game Time! Guys, it was a HOT day in Ottawa and our amazing crew battled the heat to keep our camera and audio equipment cool so everything ran without a hitch. We also started using these fun new mics a few weeks ago which bring me back to the 90s/2000s pop days. Dreams come true.

It was Canadian Armed Forces appreciation night in Ottawa and it was really special to see the number of men and women in uniform at the game and get a chance  to celebrate and recognize them. In honour of the night, just after Oh Canada there was a CF18 flyover which took my breath away. Anyone who has been to a stadium during a flyover knows it’s kind of an overwhelming moment and I think the crowd in Ottawa was feeling a bit that way last night.

Even though the heat was a thing, it was a BEAUTIFUL night for football in Ottawa. I still can’t get over how seamless and fun the experience is at TD Place. It is 100% the place to be on any game night, but it was clear that this second Thursday night had dawn out crowd looking to enjoy not just some football, but also to take in the great atmosphere and hang with their friends.

Case in point, I met Adam last night during an interview with TSN who was celebrating his 25th birthday from the Upper Log Cabin! He brought a huge crew to celebrate and had the most baller dessert table I have ever seen.

Our team will be in HAMILTON next week and can’t wait to hang with all of you! Have an amazing weekend and take in some football!
