CALGARY — Bo Levi Mitchell will be the Calgary Stampeders’ starting quarterback on Saturday, the team has confirmed.

Head Coach Dave Dickenson has called Mitchell questionable all week after exiting last week’s win over Ottawa with a lower body injury. According to Danny Austin of the Calgary Herald, the Stamps’ pivot took some first-team reps on Thursday as he continues to ramp up his involvement at practice.

On Friday, the Stamps listed Mitchell as their starting quarterback on the depth chart, with Dickenson confirming later in the day that it would be Mitchell under centre when the Stampeders take on the Montreal Alouettes in Week 6.

“I feel good about it, and he does too. The lack of practice reps I don’t think will be a big issue, and it doesn’t hurt that we were able to get our other guys some reps. Bo will get out there and I expect him to play well, which he’s done all year, and hopefully we win.”

“In my head I knew I was going to start all week,” said Mitchell. “That’s just my mindset, never wanting to come off the field. It’s been a process just making sure it felt good enough to get out there and make the throws, make the plays.”

Mitchell has said doctors have cleared him to play, and his knee isn’t at any further risk as a result of last week’s injury.

Nick Arbuckle, 24, went 8-for-14 with 84 yards and a touchdown in relief against Ottawa, helping the Stampeders clinch a 27-3 win last week.

Now in his seventh CFL season, Mitchell has led the Stampeders to a 4-0 record this year, throwing for 1,038 yards, seven touchdowns and only two interceptions in the process. His 9.1 yards per attempt are a career-high.
