Report: Argos’ Wilder, McCluster injured in practice

The Canadian Press

TORONTO — According to TSN’s Matthew Scianitti, Argos running back James Widler Jr. and Dexter McCluster were driven away from practice on Wednesday after suffering lower body injuries.

Martese Jackson and Brandon Burks have since been spotted receiving hand-offs from James Franklin as they split first-team reps.

Any missed time for Wilder would be a significant blow to the Argos, who are off to a 1-4 start after dropping their second straight contest, a 38-20 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Wilder has struggled to build off a Most Outstanding Rookie campaign, last week being held to minus-two rushing yards on three carries in the loss while averaging a pedestrian 4.31 yards per carry through five games.

McCluster, meanwhile, just arrived last week, signing with the Argos after spending time in the NFL as a Pro Bowl returner with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Burks, 24, has little CFL experience, with just four career carries to his name. But the 5-foot-9, 208-pound back made a strong impression in pre-season, including a highlight-reel touchdown catch-and-run.

The Argos are in Winnipeg for the second half of a home-and-home on Friday night.
