Report: Ticats first overall pick Chapman signs with Denver Broncos

HAMILTON — Hamilton Tiger-Cats first overall draft pick Mark Chapman has signed with the NFL’s Denver Broncos, according to a report from 3DownNation‘s Justin Dunk.

After being picked in the No. 1 spot in the 2018 CFL Draft, Chapman did not immediately sign with the Tiger-Cats, as the the team and player could not come to an agreement in contract negotiations. Chapman traveled to Hamilton to attend a Tiger-Cats game in June but no deal was made after the meeting.

The six-foot, 180-pound receiver was the first pass-catcher since Chris Bauman in 2007 to be taken with the top pick. He put on a show during the 2018 CFL Scouting Combine presented by adidas, running a 4.69 in the 40-yard dash and posted the top results in the broad jump and three-cone drill.

After red-shirting in 2013, Chapman enjoyed four productive seasons at Central Michigan Chippewa. In 2017 he started 12 games and led the team in both receptions (54) and yards (805), adding five touchdown receptions.
