Pick ‘Em Marquee Matchup: Bombers, REDBLACKS meet at IGF

The Canadian Press

WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers host the Ottawa REDBLACKS at Investors Group Field in this week’s Pick ‘Em Marquee Matchup.

At 5-3, the Bombers sit third in the West Division, behind the Edmonton Eskimos and the undefeated Calgary Stampeders. Winnipeg is coming off a 29-23 victory over Hamilton as they held off the Ticats late-game comeback attempt and now look to move up the standings.

The REDBLACKS, who also hold a 5-3 record but sit atop the East, took down the Montreal Alouettes 24-17 last week at TD Place and hope to extend their lead on the Tabbies in the division.

Trevor Harris had an impressive game for Ottawa last week and was named one of Week 9’s Shaw Top Performers. The REDBLACKS pivot tossed for just under 500 yards and finished one completion shy of Henry Burris’ CFL record 44 completions. It’ll be up to Winnipeg’s pass rush to make Harris uncomfortable in the pocket on Friday night.

Winnipeg-born Nic Demski is enjoying a breakout season for the Bombers this season, three touchdowns in his last two contests. On the other side of things, Greg Ellingson enjoyed his best game since Week 1, catching 110 yards in his team’s win last week. Keeping these two red-hot receivers in check will be key for each team’s defence.

The Bombers are 3-1 at home while the REDBLACKS are 2-2. Who takes this one? Find out Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET.

Don’t count out the visitors, however. The REDBLACKS are finding their groove at the top of the East Division and could pull an upset at IGF.
