CFL Game Time: Edmonton Edition

It was our 10th week on the road for CFL Game Time and this game had been circled on my calendar all summer as it was my first (ever) trip to Edmonton! Because there was no Thursday Night Football this week and Edmonton was the only city we hadn’t visited this summer we made a special trip out for a Saturday edition of Game Time. My colleague Lewis and I arrived early on Thursday morning and went straight for breakfast. There seems to be some debate on the best cinnamon buns in the city so we had  to weigh in – first stop Sugarbowl! I thought the breakfast was incredible and the cinnamon bun, outstanding.  Extra good soy latte there if that’s your kind of thing…

From there we went to the stadium to interview Derel Walker, Nate Behar and Aaron Grymes for the show and also for pieces coming out in the next few weeks. It was incredibly smoky in the city on Thursday because of the BC wild fires so we finished our interviews and went back to the hotel to get some work done.

Friday morning we were up early and ready for our second cinnamon bun taste test and I must admit…Lewis and I were both fans of the Highlevel Diner bun with the extra caramel bourbon sauce. So. Dang. Good. Can you guys weigh in though? Which do you prefer and why – because the truth is I am a fan of both and could be swayed.

Then we spent the rest of the day at Commonwealth. I was lucky enough to be interviewed for the Eskimos Podcast, I think the interview is coming out next week. I then interviewed the Als 5th starting QB of the season Antonio Pipkin who is 23 years old, was in Indiana less than 2 weeks ago and made his debut Saturday night. He was a totally lovely guy and emphasized his focus on the present to help him limit distractions, you can see the interview below.

Then Saturday is was Game Time! I was also the first day of #GreyCupFitUp so I got up and got to the gym early with my boss Kelly. We weren’t sure whether the game was a go due to the smoke until around 12pm local, but were so relieved the air had cleared enough for everyone to enjoy the game. Davis was back in Toronto rocking the TSN panel so I was solo for Game Time – which I must admit is harder than it looks…unless it looked hard which it very well may have. Missed you Chezy!

Here are two key initiatives happening RIGHT NOW and as a fan of this league you should learn about them, take a look:

I really enjoyed my trip to Edmonton and was so spoiled by the warm welcome thanks to many of you! We will be back on Thursday and it is our last show on the road. Come see it live in Hamilton on Thursday!
