Prediction Time: CFL.ca writers make their picks for Week 11

The Canadian Press

TORONTO — Whether you’re a CFL team, a Total CFL Pick ‘Em player or a CFL.ca writer, there’s a lot on the line, and all of it continues as Week 11 gets set in the Canadian Football League.

Perhaps our writers were humbled by last week’s series of upsets as all but one game on the Week 11 tab appears to be a supposed lock. Yet, even that could be a toss-up as we near the second half of the season when the impossible becomes possible and the crazy simply becomes crazier.

Total CFL Pick ‘Em is back in 2018 with $5,000 to be awarded to the winner who’s able to Pick ‘Em better than all the rest.

C.J. Gable returns to the Eskimos starting lineup after sitting out last week, and it’s in time to face off against his former team in the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The Eskimos are coming off of a strong victory over the Als, which saw all three phases of their game firing. Meanwhile, for the Ticats, they’re coming off a week of rest, which could be a big advantage as they’ll be facing a team who’s coming off a short week of practice.

The last time these two teams met, it was the Tabbies who took home the ‘W’ as the Black and Gold contained Reilly’s impact, while players such as Delvin Breaux shadowed weapons like Derel Walker. A similar performance from their defence could bring in another for the win column.

It can certainly be assumed Marc Trestman and the Argos are hoping to have more convincing victories than having to claw back and narrowly escaping with the win.

That being said, however, Montreal shouldn’t be taken lightly as they managed to haul down Mike Reilly five times while hurrying him on multiple other occasions. Edmonton’s offensive line is much better than that of Toronto’s, and it could turn out to be yet another tightly contested game for the Double Blue.

Montreal is likely to have Antonio Pipkin in as their quarterback for the second straight game as he comes in with something to prove.

Oh, so they can be beaten! Phew! – The rest of the CFL

At least that’s how we think the rest of the league might be thinking, especially the Winnipeg Blue Bombers ahead of their weekend tilt against the Stampeders.

Both teams are coming off losses in games in which they were projected to have won, which likely has both of them anxious to get on the field Saturday and prove themselves.

Bo Levi Mitchell and Matt Nichols anchor two of most exciting offences to watch this season, and yes, both will likely be feeling like they have much to prove following last week’s losses.

A victory against the undefeated Stampeders begs perhaps the biggest question of all: will Chris Jones ever wear black again? The Riders’ coach has earned a knack of always wearing black on game days, but that wasn’t the case last week when he dawned a green polo.

Is that the key? Maybe not.

Nonetheless, Zach Collaros looked to be the quarterback from his earlier days spent in Hamilton, and for Riders fans, that’s certainly a good thing. As for the Lions, a narrow defeat to the hands of McLeod Bethel-Thompson and the Argos last week surely isn’t sitting well with Travis Lulay after his offence committed all but one penalty in the game.
