TORONTO — The Toronto Argonauts announced Sunday that international defensive back Cassius Vaughn will likely miss the rest of the season with what’s believed to be a torn Achilles.

The injury was sustained Friday night during the team’s Week 11 loss to Montreal on a non-contact injury while Vaughn was covering Alouettes receiver B.J. Cunningham.

According to the team, further tests will be conducted to confirm the prognosis, but the worst is feared for the third-year CFL defender.

Vaughn signed a contract extension with the team in the off-season.

After six seasons in the NFL, Vaughn joined the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2016, recording 26 tackles in nine games with the Argos’ arch-nemesis. He came to the Double Blue after being released the following training camp, breaking out in 2017 with 32 tackles, five interceptions and a touchdown while seeing time at halfback and SAM linebacker.

The height of his season came in November, when he scored the infamous game-tying fumble return touchdown on a 109-yard run following Kamar Jorden‘s fumble, setting up the team’s eventual stunning Grey Cup upset over Calgary.

This season, Vaughn, 30, had recorded 24 tackles in eight games, adding one forced fumble.
