Week 12 Fantasy Locks: Getting wild on Labour Day?

The Canadian Press

TORONTO — If the Argos are going to flip the script on Labour Day and upset the Ticats in Hamilton, they may have to take a ride on the wild side.

James Wilder Jr. and the ground game will be the key to victory for the Boatmen, who won’t have injured Anthony Coombs or newcomer Duron Carter in the lineup just yet. With the Ticats allowing the most yards per game on the ground, the focal point for the Argos will be their star back.

The CFL Fantasy Podcast trio submitted their locks of the week on this week’s podcast, led by the Argos’ running back.

“If the Argos are going to beat Jeremiah Masoli and the Ticats, they need to have ball control,” said Jeff Krever. “That means running the ball and sustaining long drives because you can’t trust their defence on the field. That’s going to be their strategy.

“Just on receptions alone he’s getting around double-digits every week,” he added. “The Toronto Argonauts do not have a dominant passing attack.McLeod Bethel-Thompson is making his fourth career start. If they’re going to win this game, they are not going to do it by beating the top pass defence in the CFL. They’ll do it by leaning on James Wilder Jr. He has to go off.”

While Krever is breaking the bank to get Wilder, Pat Steinberg has another big-name running back in mind. William Powell draws the matchup against the Alouettes, who have allowed by far the most rushing attempts in the league this season.

“I feel like what Powell’s done the last couple of weeks, what he did against Montreal and how susceptible the Alouettes can be the ground,” said Steinberg. “I just can’t not have Powell in my lineup for the REDBLACKS.

“I think he goes off for at least a touchdown, we’re talking about him in the 100-yard range when it’s all said and done. I think he has a huge game.”

Hannah Nordman rounded out this week’s locks with the selection of Kamar Jorden, who topped all receivers so far in 2018 with 40 Fantasy points against the Bombers, setting a franchise record with 249 receiving yards in the process.

Nordman says she likes the matchup in the Battle of Alberta.

“I was so impressed by what he did last week,” said Nordman. “I think Calgary’s going to do big, big things up against Edmonton this week. I’m not expecting another 40-plus point week but I think he can hit 30, easy.”
