Stamps provide update on DaVaris Daniels injury

HAMILTON — Calgary receiver DaVaris Daniels left Saturday’s game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats as a result of an injury he sustained in the first half.  On Sunday he was re-evaluated and head coach Dave Dickenson told the media he will be “out for a while”.

“Davaris is the major problem,” Dickenson told media on Sunday. “He went for some x-rays and it looks like a break.  I don’t have anything major (as it relates to) time frame but he is going to be out for a while and it adds another hit to our receiving corps.”

On Monday, Dickenson confirmed that Daniels had suffered a broken collarbone in a radio interview with 770 CHQR which is the official radio station of the Calgary Stampeders.

Daniels’ injury comes a week after the Stampeders lost their leading receiver in Kamar Jorden two weeks ago against the Eskimos in the Labour Day Classic.

“You see guys are stepping up and hopefully we are going to have Eric (Rogers) back quickly.”

The return of Eric Rogers would provide a boost to a Stampeders squad that looks like it will hit the stretch run without its two top targets on offence.

In Saturday’s win over the Tiger-Cats, the two replacements for Jorden and Daniels stepped up huge as Reggie Begelton and Juwan Brescacin combined for 10 catches for 259 yard and a touchdown.

The Stampeders currently sit atop the West Division with a 10-2 record and have just entered the bye week.  They will return home for a September 28th matchup with the Toronto Argonauts at McMahon Stadium.
