Ottawa REDBLACKS kicker Lewis Ward posted a heartfelt photo Monday of former teammate Loic Kayembe on the anniversary of the latter’s tragic passing.
With Ward in the midst of a historic run of 37-straight field goals, he paid homage to Kayembe — a three-year teammate of his with the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees (2015-17) — with a short, emotional caption.
Kayembe, a defensive lineman at uOttawa, passed away on Sep. 24, 2017.
His team took to the field at the following week’s Panda Game sporting black armbands with his No. 49 on them and his jersey prominently displayed by the team’s bench. A moment of silence was held prior to the game in his honour.
