RotoExperts: CFL Week 16 Fantasy Rankings

The status of a handful of running backs will impact Week 16 Fantasy rankings, and we will see a host of new faces among the Top 10 at receiver.

Andrew Harris ($7,822) tops the list at running back but his availability for Saturday’s game against Edmonton will be determined by whether the Winnipeg star can go after missing a portion of last week’s win over Montreal with a knee injury sustained when Alouettes defensive back Dominique Ellis hit him low. The league’s second-leading rusher with 984 yards, Harris also leads the league with eight runs of better than 20 yards. If Harris doesn’t play, look for Kienan LaFrance ($3,843) to handle the bulk of the Bombers’ ground game.

Hamilton’s Alex Green ($9,342) missed last Saturday’s thriller against BC with a shoulder injury, opening the door for John White ($3,953) to rush for 62 yards and a major on 19 carries. The Tiger-Cats will turn to White in Saturday’s rematch against the Lions if their leading rusher is unavailable.

Calgary’s Romar Morris enters Week 16 as being a likely top-selection at running back for Fantasy owners after he’s tallied five majors in his last two games. (The Canadian Press)

Fantasy users have thrived with Calgary’s Romar Morris ($5,754), who has scored five touchdowns in his last two games. He’ll continue to be a solid Fantasy option but could have his production diminished if Don Jackson ($6,565) returns to the lineup for the first time since his 115-yard outing against the Eskimos in Week 12.

At receiver, the status of Hamilton’s Brandon Banks ($10,614) will again impact usage. Banks has missed the last two games with a groin injury and his return would give Jeremiah Masoli ($11,163) his favourite playmaker. Mike Jones ($3,755) scored twice last week and would be a strong sleeper play should Banks remain on the injured list. Calgary’s Reggie Begelton ($4,709) cracks the Top 5 at the position and will be a top-end option for pivot Bo Levi Mitchell ($10,027), who has lost Eric Rogers ($7,790), Kamar Jorden ($9,170) and DaVaris Daniels ($6,861).

Edmonton’s D’haquille Williams ($9,170) is atop the receiver rankings and will look to score in a sixth straight game, while BC’s Bryan Burnham — who had the highest Fantasy point total in Week 15 — stays affordable at $7,575 and has also scored in five straight games.

Paying for a quality pivot will be costly in Week 16. As usual, Edmonton’s Mike Reilly sits atop the rankings at $14,000 and will seek to add to his 39 total touchdowns at the expense of the Winnipeg defence. Masoli and Mitchell are also five-figure passers, but those looking for a bargain will consider BC’s Jonathon Jennings ($6,933), who comes off a remarkable 346-yard, three-touchdown gem in Saturday’s win over Hamilton.

Defensively, the Roughriders ($6,019) are worth the investment as they face the league’s lowest-scoring offence in the Alouettes. The Stampeders ($5,058) are also a strong play going against an Argonauts team averaging just 21 points per game and they have gone more than a month without getting a major from star running back James Wilder Jr. ($8,309).
