Week 17 Fantasy Locks: Stamps look to erase Montreal woes

Johany Jutras/CFL.ca

TORONTO — The Calgary Stampeders have endured their struggles in Montreal in recent years, but Fantasy players don’t seem to be deterred.

Bo Levi Mitchell, Don Jackson and Marken Michel are among the most-picked players heading into Week 17, as the high-flying Stamps look to take advantage of a Montreal defence that’s allowed a league-high 423.5 yards per game throughout 2018.

Things didn’t get any better for the Als last weekend, who allowed the Riders to pile up a season-high 502 net yards, with quarterback Zach Collaros enjoying his best outing since August of 2016.

For that reason, two of this week’s three CFL Fantasy Podcast locks play for the Red and White.

“I like the matchup for the Stampeders against the Alouettes and I’m going with Marken Michel,” said Pat Steinberg. “With all the injuries they’ve had, Michel is still their most reliable big-play receiver. I think they’re going to use him in some of those field-stretching scenarios.

“Bo Levi Mitchell trusts him. Yes, Eric Rogers might be coming back, and I think he’s an interesting guy to look at. But in those big plays, and I think the Stamps will have them against the Montreal Alouettes, it’s going to be Michel with his hands on the football.”

Steinberg along with Jeff Krever and Hannah Nordman offered up their Fantasy locks and bargain picks for Week 17. You can listen to the entire podcast below:

While Steinberg is banking on Michel building on his two-touchdown week, Krever says there’s only one choice at quarterback this week when assessing cost, risk and expected production.

“The Als are a defence that can be picked on,” said Krever. “Bo’s got something to prove, he’s playing with an edge this season. He’s shut down his Twitter account. He’s lost straight two Grey Cups. He’s throwing the ball further than he has before. He’s aggressive, he’s getting Eric Rogers back.

“I like what Bo’s been doing and right now he’s my MOP leader. At his price and the way he’s playing, I think you have to have Bo as your quarterback this week.”

While Jeff and Pat are loading up on Stamps, Nordman is locking in on one of the league’s fastest-emerging stars in Kyran Moore. Moore tied for the highest score of Week 16 with 28 points. His contributions in the return game give him a safe floor, while the ceiling is also high considering his explosive big-play potential.

“Last week’s highest-scoring player — he almost had as many points as my entire team — he is the first guy I slotted into my lineup this week,” said Nordman. “He’s an electric player, I think he’s going to keep it rolling and he’s at a great price. Kyran Moore is my lock of the week.”
