Ward Sets New CFL Record with 40th Consecutive Field Goal

The Canadian Press

OTTAWA – REDBLACKS K Lewis Ward etched his name in the CFL history books on Friday night, kicking home his record-breaking 40th consecutive field goal against the Blue Bombers, surpassing the mark previously set by Rene Parades.

Earlier this season Ward broke the rookie record of 21 consecutive field goals set by Luca Congi, and tied an Ottawa Football Club record by kicking seven field goals in a single game. With career CFL stats of 41 field goals on 42 attempts – his only miss coming in week 1 – Ward has quickly become one of the most reliable field goal kickers in the CFL.

The undrafted rookie was one of the most prolific field goal kickers in U Sports history, ranking second all-time with 89 successful field goals and finishing his career at the University of Ottawa as the school’s all-time leading scorer.
