#UniversityBlitz | Week 8: Stretch Run

The university football season is into its final few weeks, and playoff races across the country are heating up.

In Ontario, the best viewing pits No.-1 Western (6-0) against No.-5 Ottawa (5-1) in the nation’s capital on Saturday afternoon (1 p.m. ET); the Mustangs survived a scare against Queen’s two weeks ago, and now have this week’s tricky trip to Ottawa and a home game against Laurier standing between them and another perfect regular season.

Out west, No.-8 Saskatchewan (3-2) faces a difficult trek to the Pacific coast for a date with the UBC Thunderbirds (2-3); Blake Nill’s T-Birds have underachieved this season, but could take a big step towards the playoffs with a win against QB Kyle Siemens and the Huskies.

The RSEQ conference will probably feature lopsided scores in its two contests, as No.-2 Laval (6-0) visits McGill (1-4) and No.-4 Montreal (4-2) hosts Concordia (2-3). The combined 10-2 record of the nationally-ranked Rouge et Or and Carabins tells the story in Quebec, and they appear on track for a showdown in the conference’s Dunsmore Cup final.

In the AUS, No.-6 Saint Mary’s (6-0) can clinch first place and home-field advantage through the conference playoffs with a win against visiting Mt. Allison (2-3); the undefeated Huskies have allowed the fourth-fewest points in the nation (94).
