RotoExperts: Week 19 Fantasy Rankings

Adam Gagnon/CFL.ca

Hamilton receiver Brandon Banks is close to becoming the TSN CFL Fantasy Football king of breaking salary caps. Yet, even at his lofty sticker price of $12,219, many Fantasy users won’t blink twice about installing him into their respective lineups for Week 19.

Currently, on a stretch of seven touchdowns in his last four games, Banks is also on a run that has seen him score at least 28.9 Fantasy points per game in the same span, including 31.8 FP in last Friday’s win over Toronto. To no surprise, he’s atop the rankings at receiver heading into this Friday’s critical East showdown against co-leader Ottawa. Teammate Luke Tasker ($9,245) is right behind him, while the REDBLACKS trio of Diontae Spencer ($8,839), Brad Sinopoli ($7,413) and Greg Ellingson ($7,140) also occupy spots in the Top 10.

Edmonton’s D’haquille Williams ($8,411) is third in this week’s rankings, but teammate Bryant Mitchell is nipping his heels with a fifth-place seeding following a Week 18-best 38 FP in Saturday’s win over Ottawa that saw his salary zoom to $8,212.

With the Montreal Alouettes and Toronto Argonauts out of the playoffs, it won’t be surprising to see these two teams battle it out on Saturday when they face off against one another. (Johany Jutras, CFL.ca)

An interesting name to watch among the Top 30 receivers is Terrell Sinkfield ($5,028), who did not play last week for the Tiger-Cats after rejoining the team after a stint in the NFL. He’s likely to see action and if Hamilton chooses to use him in the return game, the former 1,000-yard wideout could make a big impact in his return to the league.

Ottawa’s William Powell is tops at running back, as the league’s leader in rushing yards takes aim at a Tiger-Cats defence that held him to just 47 yards in their Week Seven meeting. Powell ($9,021) is followed in the rankings by Edmonton’s C.J. Gable ($7,129), who comes off his best Fantasy outing since Week Three and BC’s Tyrell Sutton ($6,850), who put up 106 yards and two majors in last Saturday’s surprising win at Calgary.

Both Toronto’s Branden Burks ($4,200) and Montreal’s William Stanback ($4,873) could be potential bargains when they meet on Saturday. With both teams out of the playoff chase, the pair of young backs will have an opportunity to rack up solid Fantasy totals.

Despite Edmonton’s Mike Reilly ($12,658) shaking off his three-week funk in the win over Ottawa, the highest salary in the league remains short of returning to top pivot status, which continues to belong to Hamilton’s Jeremiah Masoli ($11,931), who has thrown 15 touchdowns in his last six games and could eclipse the 5,000-yard mark when he contends with the REDBLACKS’ defence on Friday.

In a surprise of sorts, Toronto’s James Franklin ($8,659) ranks third at the position following a 297-yard, two-touchdown effort in the loss to Hamilton. Franklin gets that spot because he will play against a Montreal pass defence ranked last in passing yards per game and touchdowns passes allowed. The Argonauts are eighth in passing yards given up and present a high-risk, high-reward shot to play Alouettes pivot Johnny Manziel ($6,021).

Defensively, the Stampeders ($5,202) will play against a struggling Saskatchewan offence that has not scored a major in their last two games. The Roughriders also make for a good Fantasy play as the Calgary offence has struggled with lighting the scoreboard in the last two games. Those looking for a bargain might consider the Argonauts ($3,200), who play the lowest-scoring offence in the league, the Alouettes.
