Banks out for season with broken clavicle

HAMILTON — The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced Sunday that receiver Brandon Banks will miss the remainder of the 2018 season with a broken clavicle.

The injury was suffered early in the fourth quarter of Friday’s 35-31 loss to the Ottawa REDBLACKS at TD Place Stadium in Ottawa.

Banks, the CFL’s second-leading receiver behind D’haquille Williams, had eight catches for 133 yards through three quarters of work on Friday night. He scored his league-leading 11th touchdown of the season in the opening quarter.

Through Week 19, Banks ranks tied for first in the Canadian Football League with teammate Luke Tasker in receiving touchdowns (11) and second in receptions (94) and receiving yards (1,423).

This season, Banks set a new club record for the most 100-plus yards receiving games in a single season with 10, eclipsing Tony Champion’s eight, which held up as the franchise’s all-time high since 1989. Banks’ 94 receptions and 1,423 receiving yards in 2018 both rank fifth in a single season in Ticats history.

The Ticats and REDBLACKS will conclude a home-and-home when they head to Tim Hortons Field for a rematch on Saturday.
