Eskimos eliminated from playoffs for first time since 2013

EDMONTON — The Edmonton Eskimos have been eliminated from the 2018 Grey Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2013 after Winnipeg sealed their fate with a win over Calgary Friday night at Investors Group Field.

The Eskimos were battling the Bombers for the final playoff spot in a division that will have four representatives due to the CFL crossover rule.

Once considered to be a heavyweight and potential Grey Cup participant, the Eskimos started have been in a free-fall in the second half of the season despite having one of the most dynamic offences with Mike Reilly and Duke Williams.

Winners of just two of their last eight games, the Eskimos will close out the season against the Bombers at home next week before closing up shop for the off-season.

The 2018 season was an important one for an Edmonton franchise that was within one score of making the Grey Cup the year before and hosting the big game at Commonwealth Stadium in November for the first time since 2010.
