CALGARY — The Calgary Stampeders will be without international receiver Eric Rogers for their season finale vs. the BC Lions on Saturday night.
Rogers was added to the one-game injured list Friday, as the club gets set for a critical Week 21 matchup in a visit to BC Place that will determine first place in the CFL West Division. The Stamps need a win to clinch top spot over the idle Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Taking Rogers’ spot on the depth chart is veteran receiver Bakari Grant, who returns to the Stampeders after signing with the team last month. Grant led the Saskatchewan Roughriders with 84 catches for 1,033 yards and five touchdowns last season before being released during training camp.
Rogers’ availability for the Grey Cup Playoffs is unknown, though he’s eligible to return for the team’s next game, which will either be on Nov. 11 vs. the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Western Semi-Final, or on Nov. 18 vs. either Winnipeg or Saskatchewan in the Western Final, depending on the outcome of Saturday’s game.
After breaking out with two dominant seasons in 2014 and 2015, Rogers departed to the NFL, where he suffered a season-ending knee injury in 2016.
Following his two-year absence from the three-down game, Rogers returned near the end of training camp this season, joining what was considered one of the league’s top groups of receivers going into the season. However, injuries have held him to just nine games, throughout which he’s recorded 499 yards and five touchdowns.
With a league-best 12-5 record, the Stamps are looking to win their third straight West Division title, all under Head Coach Dave Dickenson.
