RotoExperts: Grey Cup Fantasy Rankings

One more game. One last chance for TSN CFL Fantasy football users to test their acumen against their fellow foes while either rooting for the REDBLACKS or Stampeders in Sunday’s 106th edition of the Grey Cup.

To little shock, the play at pivot will determine the fate of many Fantasy users. Calgary’s Bo Levi Mitchell ($8,994) has been a model of consistency when it comes to finding the end zone. Although his completion rate has experienced a roller coaster ride at times, Mitchell has thrown at least one touchdown pass in all but one game this season (at Alouettes, Week 17). Three of his combined 38 passing majors have come against Ottawa despite averaging just 13.4 Fantasy points against the REDBLACKS.

Ottawa’s Trevor Harris ($9,656) brings a salary that has been spurred behind 12 touchdown passes in the last five games, including the record-setting six he tossed in the East Final victory over Hamilton. However, his regular season numbers against the Calgary defence will be a cause of concern for some Fantasy users, as Harris managed a total of 3.1 FP versus the Stamps. Harris completed just 27 of his 51 attempts for 228 yards and three interceptions, and while those totals are troublesome, he and the Ottawa offence isn’t the same unit that spent much of the first half of the season trying to get in gear.

Fantasy users who consider playing Ottawa’s William Powell ($8,705) will have to sacrifice at receiver and flex, as both starting quarterbacks will put a dent into the $30,000 salary cap. Powell, the second-leading rusher in the regular season, has been in a scoring drought as he has just one major since Week 14. While Powell has been a non-factor in the passing game of late, he had seven games in the regular season where he put up at least five Fantasy points with his receiving skills.

Calgary’s Don Jackson ($7,274) has looked like the early season version of himself, rushing for 174 yards and a touchdown in the last two games. He will see an extensive workload with the versatile Romar Morris ($4,655) out with an apparent Achilles injury and Terry Williams ($4,923) expected to be used mostly in a return role. Williams, who has three punt returns for touchdowns this season, does offer some sleeper potential.

The biggest question at receiver is whether Calgary’s DaVaris Daniels ($7,191) will be available. Daniels hasn’t played since being injured in Week 14 but had put up a stretch where he posted at least 18.1 Fantasy points in four of his last five games before the injury on Labour Day. If he does play, he’ll obviously enhance the potential of Mitchell along with bolstering the chances of Markeith Ambles ($4,428) and Chris Matthews ($3,614) to be bargain-rate impact players. Coming off his three-TD performance in the West Final, a healthy Eric Rogers ($6,716) is the highest-rated of the Stamps’ receiving corps who also recorded one of his regular season majors against the REDBLACKS in Week 3.

For Ottawa, it’s all about the East All-Star trio of Diontae Spencer ($8,816), Greg Ellingson ($7,518) and Brad Sinopoli ($6,789). Spencer has been on a receiving tear, having scored six times in his last four games while racking up 20-plus Fantasy three times in the same span. Ellingson has three games of better than 20 FP in his last five contests, while Sinopoli has scored at least 10 Fantasy points in all but four games this season. With Spencer, his return skills make him a strong add to any lineup, while R.J. Harris ($4,554), who has three games of least 17 Fantasy points, looms as a sleeper play.

Calgary’s defence ($4,801) put up a combined 29 Fantasy points in the two regular season contests against Ottawa, including a 21 FP effort in Week 5. The Stamps recorded a total of seven sacks and caused seven turnovers in eight quarters of play against the REDBLACKS. Ottawa ($3,750) has struggled to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks (two sacks in the last five games) but have created 10 turnovers in the past four games.
