MONTREAL — The Canadian Football League’s all-time leading passer is returning to Montreal, as Anthony Calvillo has taken a job with the University of Montreal Carabins.

Calvillo will join the U SPORTS team’s coaching staff led by Danny Maciocia, leaving the CFL after four seasons on the sideline and 20 seasons as a quarterback.

The 46-year-old spent 2018 as the Toronto Argonauts’ quarterbacks coach after three years in Montreal. The dismissal of Marc Trestman in early November likely led to his departure from the Argos’ staff.

With 79,816 passing yards in his career with Las Vegas, Hamilton and Montreal, Calvillo remains the most prolific passer in professional football history. He is also one of seven pro passers to throw 400-plus passing touchdowns, finishing his career in 2013 with 455 touchdowns and only 224 interceptions.

Last season the Carabins went 6-2, finishing second in the RSEQ before falling to eventual Vanier Cup Champion Laval 14-1 in the Dunsmore Cup.
