Tributes from around the Canadian Football League poured in on social media Thursday morning following BC quarterback Travis Lulay’s retirement.
For ten years, you showed us what it meant to be a BC Lion: a man loved by the community, a prideful leader, a warrior on the field & an even better man off of it.
For ten years, you had our hearts & we had yours.
Thank you @TravisLulay.
Forever a Lion. #ThankYouLulay#BCLions pic.twitter.com/ttgPCVYLcO— BC LIONS (@BCLions) February 28, 2019
The 35 year-old was a bona fide star when healthy, earning MOP honours in BC’s Grey Cup-winning 2011 campaign, and was universally well-liked across the league.

Had the pleasure of blessing this mans hands and whispering sweet nothings into his ear for the last 5 seasons. An absolutely incredible athlete, teammate, leader, friend and person. It was a honour to call you my friend & locker buddy @TravisLulay all the best to you my friend. pic.twitter.com/GI8m807G0e

Dear @TravisLulay I had the pleasure to be your roommate early on in your career, basically before you got too big time 😉 You drew plays in these notebooks all night, I knew you’d be special.
GENERAL LU! It was an honor to block for you 🦁

Has been one of my fav players since I came up north. I remember in 2013 when he came to Guelph and we played and I was just like wow he gotta be the toughest human in the world. Congrats @TravisLulay

It’s an end of an era for the great @TravisLulay. I learned so much from this stud in just a year. Not only how to be a better QB, but how to be a better man & for that I will be forever grateful. I am honored to have shared the gridiron with you! Now go work on that golf game 😉 pic.twitter.com/4jOomwr4D2

Congrats on retirement to an all time @MSUBobcats and @cfl legend. I will never forget being at my first college game hearing them sing your song till we played on the same field! Thank you for making the game better! @TravisLulay pic.twitter.com/siqgCNzLvM

If you have a son, you want him to grow up to be just like @TravisLulay the dad, husband and friend. Football just brought him to us. #ThankYouLulay pic.twitter.com/qT9pd4L159

There are only 6 @bclions QBs who have won Grey Cups. Only 3 Lions QBs have won @CFL MOP. @TravisLulay is the only one to get both. The fact he’s a better person & citizen than he is a football player speaks volumes.

Congratulations to @TravisLulay on yr retirement. Not only did he bring us many thrills with @BCLions he was a true professional with the media. Willing, honest and thoughtful. One of the greatest athletes and individuals I was privileged to know in 44 years with @VancouverSun.
