Ticats release veteran national WR Shamawd Chambers

HAMILTON — The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced a trio of cuts on Tuesday and among them is veteran national receiver Shamawd Chambers.

The ‘Cats also released a pair of Canadian offensive lineman in Avery Jordan and Everton Williams.

Chambers, 29, did not play in 2018 due to an ACL injury suffered in training camp with the Tiger-Cats. The 6-foot-3, 219-pound native of Markham, Ont. split the 2017 season between the Edmonton Eskimos (six games) and Hamilton (seven games), posting 32 receptions for 319 yards overall.

He was acquired by the Ticats in a trade with the Eskimos in September of 2017.

Selected in the first round, sixth overall, by Edmonton in the 2012 CFL Draft out of Wilfrid Laurier University, Chambers has recorded 169 receptions for 1,822 yards and eight touchdowns over 77 games during his seven-year CFL career with the Eskimos (2012-15, 2017), Saskatchewan Roughriders (2016) and Tiger-Cats (2017-18).

He won a Grey Cup with the Eskimos in 2015 and was named the game’s Most Valuable Canadian in Edmonton’s 26-20 triumph over the Ottawa Redblacks.
