Week 2 Fantasy Locks: Gable, Harris lead Eskimo locks

TORONTO — With 70 plays from scrimmage and more than 607 total yards, the Edmonton Eskimos were an engine of success in Week 1 of TSN CFL Fantasy.

Trevor Harris, Kenny Stafford, C.J. Gable and Ricky Collins had the top four scores league-wide, all at the expense of the Montreal Alouettes in a 32-25 season-opening victory.

The question in Week 2: Is the Eskimos’ early success a one-off, or a sign of what’s to come in 2019?

Pat Steinberg and Hannah Nordman aren’t willing to wait and find out, after picking Eskimos as their locks this week on the CFL Fantasy Podcast.

“I’m going to go with Trevor Harris,” said Steinberg. “After what we saw with him in Week 1 and what we know he’s capable of and the type of game we’re going to see with BC and Edmonton, to have Harris at $9,200 is too good an option to pass up. He’s got some really nice options at receiver.”

Hannah, meanwhile, is going with Eskimos running back C.J. Gable, who rushed for 154 yards on 20 carries and added a touchdown through the air vs. Montreal.

“I love what he did last week,” said Nordman. “Pretty decent price at $7,600, still one of the more expensive running backs but he’s still reasonable, and against the BC Lions run defence I think he can do big things again this week.”

This week Harris and Gable are the two most-chosen players in Fantasy, followed by Hamilton running back Sean Thomas-Erlington and Kenny Stafford.

CFL Fantasy Podcast, Ep. 30: Way-too-early conclusions

Pat Steinberg, Jeff Krever and Hannah Nordman draw their conclusions from the first week of the season. What’s real and what’s a myth? More in the latest CFL Fantasy Podcast presented by LeoVegas.

Many Fantasy players are also buying low on the BC Lions. While quarterback Mike Reilly is only the third most-chosen at his position as he returns to his former home, Lemar Durant and Duron Carter represent strong value buys with salaries of under $4,000.

Both receivers were frequently targeted by Reilly in Week 1 and have a good chance to easily exceed their cost in what could be a high-scoring matchup.

“If you have faith in the BC Lions, Carter and his 10 targets in Week 1, he’s going to be a really active part of that passing attack,” said Jeff Krever. “I predict he’s going to find the end zone against the Edmonton Eskimos.”

“You’ve got to put Lemar Durant in this conversation,” added Steinberg. “A touchdown in Week 1. I think he’s going to be a solid red zone option, and in a pass-heavy offence having the No. 3 target at $3,700, pretty solid way to go.”
