VANCOUVER — The BC Lions added defensive lineman Jonathan Newsome and defensive back Oshane Samuels to the practice roster on Tuesday.

Newsome, 28, is a four-year CFL veteran who began his career with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2016 and was most recently a member of the Ottawa REDBLACKS. The Ball State graduate has appeared in 42 regular-season games, including nine with Ottawa in 2019, and has tallied 50 defensive tackles along with seven career sacks.

Samuels has spent the last previous three seasons in the Canadian Junior Football League with the Edmonton Huskies. In 10 total games last season, the Brampton, Ont., native had 37 tackles, one sack, two fumble recovery touchdowns, and an interception.

BC also announced that offensive lineman Johnathan Harke and defensive lineman Ebo Ogundeko have been released.

The Lions will be back in action on Saturday when they welcome the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to BC Place.
