TORONTO — After a number of weeks pinned to the Argonauts bench, former all-star tailback James Wilder Jr. is set to return to the Toronto backfield.
His replacement in recent weeks, Brandon Burks, has been placed on the club’s six-game injured list.
Wilder last played in Week 6. After spending time on the injured list, he was a healthy scratch the last two weeks. Much has been made about his perceived demotion in the wake of a one-win season.
Following Wilders’s first benching, head coach Corey Chamblin said, “I can’t say (he will be out of the lineup) for the rest of the season. I don’t even know if I’ll be the coach for the rest of the season. That’s just the world we live in.
The 27-year-old has 161 rushing yards on 38 carries to go along with 260 yards and two receiving scores.
In other roster news, the Argonauts have pulled all-star Cleyon Laing off the six-game injured list and he will start at defensive tackle on Monday.
The Argos will travel to Hamilton to take on the Tiger-Cats in the Labour Day Classic on Monday at 1pm.
