TORONTO — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are slumping, but that’s no reason to shy away from Chris Streveler in Week 18.
Primed for a favourable matchup against the Montreal Alouettes, Streveler has a chance to build on what’s been a solid Fantasy season since taking over for the injured Matt Nichols. In six starts, Streveler has averaged 22.6 Fantasy points per game.
“We talk about him as a running quarterback, that’s fair, he’s done a lot of his damage on the ground,” said Jeff Krever. “But this is a big week for Streveler and I think he does something with his arm. He’s got to challenge that Alouettes secondary. He’s showing chemistry with Darvin Adams, with Kenny Lawler. I think we’re talking about a big game for him both in the air and on the ground.”
Krever, Hannah Nordman and Pat Steinberg submit their locks and money picks every week on the CFL Fantasy Podcast. This week, Streveler is joined by Shaq Cooper and Bryan Burnham as this week’s must-haves.
Cooper is getting the start for the Eskimos in place of C.J. Gable. He’ll become available in Fantasy likely on Friday after being added to the active roster at a price of $4,807.
“I can’t look past that price tag of $5,000 for a number one running back,” said Steinberg. “I can’t look past what he did in his only start of the season, and I can’t look past the skill set, the guy is a really, really talented running back. I get why he hasn’t been playing, C.J. Gable is huge for them, but against a BC team that you have been able to run on this season, I like that play a lot.”
Burnham has been one of the CFL’s top receivers over the last month, and is coming off a 40-point week in a win over the Argos.
“What do you do when you’re struggling? You go back to what is a sure bet,” said Nordman. “When you’re averaging 25 to 30 points a week, I feel comfortable putting Bryan Burnham in. It’s a big week in BC, everything is on the line and I feel like this guy is going to get target after target.”
CFL Fantasy Podcast, Ep. 46: Guess who’s back
Set to battle his former team, is Mike Reilly back to being one of the best quarterbacks? Pat, Jeff and Hannah debate on all the latest in CFL Fantasy.
Lankford could get the start at receiver for the Lions following a season-ending injury to Lemar Durant.
“Totals have been low-ish, but we’ve seen what he can do,” said Nordman. “He had a 23-point week earlier in the season. I’m not saying it’s going to happen, I’m saying there’s a chance. If you like what BC’s doing, you might think about throwing him in.”
Ralph and Araujo-Lopes round out a trio of cheap receivers as this week’s money picks.
“From the football powerhouse of Raymond, Alberta, I’m going to go with Jimmy Ralph of the famed Ralph family,” said Steinberg. “I’m really curious about how he’s used with a new regime in Toronto and trying to see what they have with different guys. I think this is going to be a pass heavy game, if you can get three or four catches from him you’re still getting decent return on a $2,500 pick.”
“Araujo-Lopes had a really good game the one game that he played this year,” said Krever. “Rick Campbell says he’s hoping he’ll be available. They seem to really like him, he’s going to be a good receiver and against the worst statistical defence in the CFL, I don’t mind that dart throw. Just make sure he’s in the lineup before you start him.”
