Fantasy Status Report: Don Jackson sidelined vs. Bombers

Peter McCabe/CFL.ca

TSN CFL Fantasy presented by LeoVegas is easy to play with just seven roster spots and a $40,000 salary cap.

However, success does require a healthy team, with all seven players in active CFL lineups. With such small rosters, an empty slot can be a devastating blow to your week’s score.

In addition, practice reports can be the source of hidden gems that produce big numbers despite low ownership percentage, providing an edge over the rest of the field.

With that, CFL.ca breaks down some of the critical roster notes for each game.

Toronto at Montreal
Friday | 7:00 p.m. ET

Derel Walker, WR, TOR

The Argos will be minus receiver Derel Walker ($8,560) for Friday night’s game in Montreal. Walker has recorded 1,040 yards and six touchdowns in his first season in Toronto. Chandler Worthy ($2,500) will take his place.

McLeod Bethel-Thompson, QB, TOR

Argos quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson ($8,563) will start but may not play the entire game vs. Montreal on Friday, according to Frank Zicarelli of the Toronto Sun. The Argos could use the final three games to evaluate their other quarterbacks.

Michael O’Connor, QB, TOR

There’s a chance Michael O’Connor ($5,000) will see his first professional snaps on Friday night vs. Montreal. It would be a nice story, but O’Connor has little Fantasy value at this point.

Chandler Worthy, WR, TOR

With Walker sidelined, Chandler Worthy ($2,500) will start for the Argos at wide receiver. It’s a good opportunity for the 26-year-old to make an impression for 2020, though he’ll be hard to trust from a Fantasy standpoint.

William Stanback, RB, MTL

Als running back William Stanback ($7,397) will return to the starting lineup on Friday. Stanback didn’t play in Week 18. It’s a nice matchup against the CFL’s worst run defence, yet the presence of Jeremiah Johnson ($5,919) may cause skepticism.

Jeremiah Johnson, RB, MTL

Stanback’s return could impact Jeremiah Johnson’s ($5,919) role on Friday vs. Toronto. Johnson has produced when given the opportunity, but Stanback appears to be locked in as the No. 1 running back in Montreal.

Chris Matthews, WR, MTL

Chris Matthews ($3,373) returns to the Alouettes’ starting lineup after missing back to back games. He’ll start at the field wideout spot as the Als go all American at receiver.

Saskatchewan at BC
Friday | 10:00 p.m. ET

Mike Reilly, QB, BC

Mike Reilly ($9,903) will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on his wrist. The Lions have provided a 6-8 week timeline for recovery, meaning he’ll be good to go in 2020.

Brandon Bridge, QB, BC

The Lions have signed Canadian quarterback Brandon Bridge ($5,640). Don’t expect to see him in the game this week, but Bridge could start the finale if primary backup Danny O’Brien ($5,000) falters.

Danny O’Brien, QB, BC

Backup quarterback Danny O’Brien ($5,000) will get the start on Friday night in place of Mike Reilly. O’Brien struggled in relief last weekend, averaging fewer than five yards per attempt vs. the Eskimos.

Brandon Rutley, RB, BC

Brandon Rutley ($4,544) won’t dress for Friday night’s game vs. Saskatchewan. John White ($7,960) is firmly entrenched as the Lions’ starting running back anyway.

Ottawa at Hamilton
Saturday | 4:00 p.m. ET

Marcus Tucker, WR, HAM

Marcus Tucker ($3,842) will be in a backup role vs. the REDBLACKS on Saturday, as Jalin Marshall ($2,500) is slated to start at receiver for the Ticats. It’s possible both will see the field, but neither is a recommended play even against a struggling Ottawa defence.

Jalin Marshall, WR, HAM

Jalin Marshall ($2,500) is listed as the starter over Marcus Tucker ($3,842) this week for the Ticats. Who knows how the playing time will work out, but the Ticats don’t have a lot to play for with the division already wrapped up.

Mossis Madu, RB, OTT

Mossis Madu ($6,480) will not play against the Ticats on Saturday. Madu sat while Brendan Gillanders ($3,500) and Greg Morris ($2,500) split the carries vs. Toronto, a configuration that will continue this week.

John Crockett, RB, OTT

John Crockett (5,039) remains sidelined this week, though he could be back in the not too distant future, Rick Campbell says. Crockett has been out since Aug. 24 when he was injured vs. Saskatchewan.

Will Arndt, QB, OTT

The REDBLACKS will give Will Arndt ($5,000) another start on Saturday vs. the Ticats. Arndt had a decent debut, finding the end zone twice but also throwing three interceptions.

Brendan Gillanders, RB, OTT

Brendan Gillanders ($3,500) will make a second straight start for the REDBLACKS this week. The national split carries with Greg Morris ($2,500) last weekend, rushing for 15 yards and adding six receptions for 45 yards.

Rafael Araujo-Lopes, WR, OTT

Rafael Araujo-Lopes ($2,500) is out of the lineup for the REDBLACKS. The rookie returned kicks last week but won’t play vs. the Ticats as Stef Logan ($3,315) takes over primary return duties.

Winnipeg at Calgary
Saturday | 7:00 p.m. ET

Don Jackson, RB, CGY

Stamps running back Don Jackson ($6,580) will miss Saturday’s contest vs. the Bombers. Calgary faces an uphill climb at running back, with Ante Milanovic-Litre ($2,500) slated to start.

Ante Milanovic-Litre, RB, CGY

With Jackson sidelined, Ante Milanovic-Litre ($2,500) will get the start for the Stampeders vs. Winnipeg, though Terry Williams ($4,352) is also sure to have an impact.

Chris Streveler, QB, WPG

Chris Streveler ($9,335) could be part of a rotation in Winnipeg, though he continues to be the No. 1 quarterback after the team acquired Zach Collaros ($5,855).

Darvin Adams, WR, WPG

Receiver Darvin Adams ($6,154) is in the starting lineup for the Bombers this week, despite missing back to back practices. He caught three passes for 21 yards last week vs. Montreal.

Zach Collaros, QB, WPG

Stamps head coach Dave Dickenson said he’s preparing to face both Chris Streveler ($9,335) and Zach Collaros ($5,855) this week. Collaros was acquired by the Bombers before last week’s trade deadline and will be the team’s third string quarterback on Saturday.

Lucky Whitehead, WR, WPG

Lucky Whitehead ($4,333) remains in a backup role for the Bombers, as Rasheed Bailey ($2,500) has been elevated to starter. Whitehead’s usage has declined over the second half of the season and could continue to.

Rasheed Bailey, WR, WPG

Rasheed Bailey ($2,500) will draw another start for the Bombers. The rookie hasn’t looked out of place at all this season, catching five passes in each of his two games.
