DailyRoto: Week 20 Fantasy Rankings

Arthur Ward/CFL.ca

Week 20 of TSN CFL Fantasy Football Presented by Leo Vegas brings joy to Eskimos fans and to the Edmonton receiving corps. Quarterback Trevor Harris ($10,987) was activated from the 6-game Injured List on Monday, giving the Eskimos — and Fantasy users — a pivot who still ranks fourth in passing yardage (3,706) despite missing the team’s last four games with an arm injury.

Although the Eskimos face the league’s second-stingiest scoring defence in the Roughriders, the addition of Harris not only bolsters optimism for an Edmonton team bound for the postseason, it also does wonders on the rankings of the Eskimos’ pass catchers, who struggled under Logan Kilgore. It should be said, though, that Kilgore did go 2-2 as a starter and did enough to get the franchise into life beyond Week 21.

QUARTERBACKS

6 (4) Cody Fajardo, SSK $10,953 EDM

8 (T-16) Will Arndt, OTT $5,000 TOR
9 (11) Zach Collaros, WPG $5,896 CGY
10 (T-16) David Watford, HAM $5,000 MTL

Saskatchewan’s defence is second only to Calgary with just 36 big plays allowed, part of the reason why Harris is fifth among pivots this week. McLeod Bethel-Thompson ($9,131) bids for a 10th 300-yard game against a REDBLACKS unit that he lit up for 711 combined yards and five majors in two previous games against them. Bo Levi Mitchell ($10,111) has averaged a blistering 357.4 yards per game in his last five outings. Now that he’s thrown multiple majors in his last two games, his value continues to rise. Equally hot is Ticats pivot Dane Evans ($9,697), who has thrown for more than 300 yards in six of his last eight while firing 12 touchdowns in his past six. In two previous games against the Hamilton defence, Vernon Adams Jr. ($11,629) produced a combined 17 Fantasy points via passing. He’ll need much more than that if the Alouettes are to have a shot of staying with the Ticats in a potential track meet.

Cody Fajardo ($10,953) has a new contract, yet his lack of throwing multiple touchdown passes (once since Week 6) hurts his cause against Edmonton and its league-leading pass defence. Chris Streveler ($9,512) missed Tuesday’s practice. Zach Collaros ($5,896) didn’t, leading to speculation of his return to action against the Stamps. The Argos are eighth in passing yards allowed, which could make REDBLACKS pivot Will Arndt ($5,000) a possible value play to some.

RUNNING BACKS

Matchup Rank (Position Rank) Player Value Opponent
1 (3) William Powell, SSK $7,901 EDM
2 (1) Andrew Harris, WPG $10,327 CGY
3 (4) William Stanback, MTL $7,608 HAM
4 (8) Tyrell Sutton, HAM $6,108 MTL
5 (2) C.J. Gable, EDM $7,996 SSK
6 (5) James Wilder Jr., TOR $7,493 OTT
7 (6) Don Jackson, CGY $6,711 WPG
8 (10) Shaquille Cooper, EDM $5,721 SSK
9 (9) Jeremiah Johnson, MTL $5,987 HAM
10 (16) Terry Williams, CGY $4,352 WPG
11 (T-22) Brendan Gillanders, OTT $3,500 TOR
12 (14) Chris Rainey, TOR $4,863 OTT
13 (18) Christion Jones, EDM $4,058 SSK
14 (21) Marcus Thigpen, SSK $3,103 EDM
15 (20) Stefan Logan, OTT $3,197 TOR
16 (T-28) A.J. Ouellette, TOR $2,500 OTT

Only three yards separate William Powell ($7,901) from a third straight 1,000-yard season. He and Fajardo have combined for 22 of Saskatchewan’s league-best 24 rushing touchdowns, so the Eskimos — who have allowed a league-low seven rushing majors — will have to pick their poison near the goal line. Regardless as to who’s handing him the ball, expect Andrew Harris ($10,327) to get a heavy workload versus a Stampeders defence ranked third in fewest yards allowed per play (5.8). Look for William Stanback ($7,608) to be heavily involved as the Alouettes will look to use the run to open things up for the passing game. Stanback leads the league with 12 carries of better than 20 yards. It’s safe to play Tyrell Sutton ($6,108) now that he’s rushed for a combined 173 yards in the last two games while giving Hamilton’s explosive offence a game-altering presence on the ground. If healthy, C.J. Gable ($7,996) will get the three yards he needs for 1,000. If not, then Shaq Cooper ($5,721) makes for a solid Plan B for Edmonton.

Jeremiah Johnson ($5,987) will get his share of touches spelling Stanback. The return of Don Jackson ($6,711) likely means Ante Milanovic-Litre ($2500) and his cult hero status returns to being a role player. Unless Mossis Madu ($6,556) is activated, Brendan Gillanders ($3,500) remains the lead back in Ottawa. The Argos will likely give A.J. Ouellette ($2,500) another handful of carries, especially if James Wilder Jr. ($7,493) and his season-low struggles continue.

Brandon Banks is back to his old $14,000 salary. It’s going to hurt your salary cap almost as much if Bralon Addison ($10,717) is your Hamilton receiver of choice. Entering Week 10, Reggie Begelton had just one touchdown reception. He’s tallied nine majors since, soaring his salary to $11,441 as he’s also produced at least 18.8 Fantasy points five times since Week 10. It’s been four games since Eric Rogers ($8,527) has scored a touchdown, but is due for a breakout now that Josh Huff ($4,893) has established himself the third option in Calgary’s passing attack. Montreal’s Eugene Lewis ($7,898) has been good for at least one reception of better than 23 yards in seven of the Als’ last nine games. Toronto’s duo of S.J. Green ($8,084) and Armanti Edwards ($7,079) should have the edge over Ottawa’s Dominique Rhymes ($6,335) and Brad Sinopoli ($5,602) in what could be the week’s highest-scoring game.

DaVaris Daniels ($6,225) and Greg Ellingson ($7,732) will benefit yardage wise upon Trevor Harris’ return, but the Roughriders have allowed just 18 passing majors this season. Saskatchewan will also have its challenge against Edmonton’s pass defence but Shaq Evans ($6,999) and Naaman Roosevelt ($6,221) will be the go-to options for the Roughriders. If the Blue Bombers are going with Zach Collaros, his passing skills should benefit Kenny Lawler ($4,561) and Darvin Adams ($6,207).

DEFENCES

Saskatchewan ($5,821) has scored at least 10 Fantasy points defensively in three of the last four weeks. Winnipeg ($6,200) has a league-best 24 interceptions and will force the Stampeders into a pass-heavy mode considering that Calgary manages just 75.1 yards per game on the ground. The Stamps ($5,316) are a modest-scoring defensive unit that overdue for a dominant performance.
