Argos sign Bishop Sankey to practice roster

TORONTO — The Toronto Argonauts have signed running back Bishop Sankey to the team’s practice roster.

Sankey, 27, was selected by the Tennessee Titans in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. In his rookie year, he had 702 all-purpose yards abd a pair of rushing touchdowns in 16 games.

Following two seasons with the Titans, the team released him as part of their final roster cuts ahead of the 2016 season. After stops on the practice rosters of the New England, Kansas City, and Minnesota, he signed a futures contract with the Vikings for the 2017 campaign. However, he suffered a torn ACL in the first game of the 2017 preseason.

Sankey last played for the San Deigo Fleet of the AAF in 2019. In four games, Sankey recorded 119 yards on 30 rushing attempts along with five receptions that went for 20 yards.

The Wadsworth, OH., native will join a running back corps that already features James Wilder Jr., Chris Rainey, Brandon Burks, and AJ Ouellette.

Sankey spent three years at the University of Washington, rushing for 3,496 yards and 37 touchdowns and adding 67 receptions for 567 receiving yards with the Huskies. Sankey was named First Team All-Pac-12 and a Second Team All-American after his junior season in 2013 after rushing for 1,870 yards, a single-season school record, and 20 touchdowns. The running back left as the school’s leader in rushing touchdowns and third all-time in rushing yards.

The Argos will welcome the Ottawa REDBLACKS to BMO Field on Saturday. Kick-off between the two Ontario rivals kick-off at 4:00 p.m. ET.
