CALGARY — The Calgary Stampeders have made a decision on their new offensive coordinator.
The team announced on Wednesday that they have promoted offensive line coach Pat DelMonaco into the position. He’ll still serve in his original role on top of being the Stamps’ OC.
“I’m excited to have Pat progress in our coaching staff,” Stamps head coach Dave Dickenson said in a statement. “He has already been integral in our offensive coordination and it was a natural and easy fit to give him the offensive coordinator’s title.
“We will continue to collaborate as an entire offensive staff to get the best possible production on the field.”
DelMonaco’s first foray into the CFL came in 2010 when he joined the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to be their offensive line coach after a seven-year stint at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He was the offensive line coach for two seasons (2003-04) and the offensive coordinator for five years (2005-09) at RPI.
He spent four seasons with the Blue and Gold, opting to move on in 2014 in favour of the OL coaching position in Calgary.
In his first three seasons with the Stamps, they led the league in fewest sacks allowed in all three. DelMonaco’s offensive lines finished in the top three in that respect in his first five seasons with the organization.
“I’m relishing the opportunity to continue to learn from Dave,” DelMonaco said. “My family and I have enjoyed the past six years in Calgary and I’m excited to stay in the city and for the chance to continue to grow within the Stampeders organization.”
DelMonico will join head coach Dickenson to formally announce the move on Thursday at 11:30 p.m. ET.
