Cutdown Tracker: Teams make their final roster moves

TORONTO — As teams finish out their preseason schedules, CFL.ca is tracking every team’s final cuts, as they set their rosters for Week 1 of the 2023 regular season.

Teams have until 10 p.m. of their respective local times on Saturday, June 3 to finalize their cuts.

The regular season gets underway on Thursday, June 8, when the Calgary Stampeders host the BC Lions at McMahon Stadium.

The Lions announced on Sunday they have released 10 players and added 11 to their practice roster, including American wide receiver Josh Pearson and American quarterback Chase Brice. Pearson returns to the Lions after having his 2022 campaign cut short due to a knee injury suffered in July. Brice joins BC after attending 2023 mini-camp with the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons and Washington Commanders.

The Bombers announced on Saturday the release of 25 players, including National kicker Marc Liegghio. The 26-year-old played in Winnipeg for two seasons (2021-2022) and made 78.7 per cent of his field goal attempts.

CALGARY STAMPEDERS

The Stamps made a difficult decision at the conclusion of their training camp, releasing veteran offensive lineman Derek Dennis. The 34-year-old has spent seven years in the CFL and is a two-time CFL All-Star and a four-time West Division All-Star. Dennis was the CFL’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman in 2016.

He also registered 18 punt returns for 193 yards.
