Argos extend WR David Ungerer III and DB Josh Hagerty; sign two

TORONTO — The Toronto Argonauts announced on Monday they have extended the contract of National wide receiver David Ungerer III and National defensive back Josh Hagerty.

Ungerer III, has played 17 games in his first season with Toronto and is in the midst of a career year across the board in receptions, yards, and touchdowns with 35, 491, and three, respectively.

The 28-year-old spent the last three years in Hamilton after being drafted by the Ticats in the second round of the 2019 CFL Draft. The Idaho alum caught 33 passes for 456 yards and two touchdowns in 38 career games for the Tabbies. At Idaho, the five-foot-10, 171-pound receiver hauled in 116 passes for 1,225 yards and 10 touchdowns in 34 games for the Vandals.

Hagerty, in his third season in Double Blue, played in three games in 2023, totaling eight defensive tackles, before an injury sidelined him for the rest of the regular season.

The Argonauts also announced on Monday they have signed American defensive back Amani Dennis and American defensive lineman Ralph Holley.

Dennis, 26, most recently played for the Philadelphia Stars of the USFL the past two seasons after being drafted by the team in the fourth round of the 2022 USFL Draft. The five-foot-11, 180-pound defensive back had 72 tackles and five interceptions in 20 games played for the Stars. The Illinois native attended Carthage College in Wisconsin from 2015-2018 where he recorded 100 tackles, 11 interceptions, and 33 pass deflections over 29 career games.

Holley, 24, also played with the Philadelphia Stars last season, tallying three tackles along the way. The six-foot-one, 285-pound defensive lineman played five seasons at Western Michigan (2016-2020) where over the course of 50 games, the Michigan native added 138 tackles, 45.5 for loss, and 20.5 sacks for the Broncos.

The Argos play their final regular season game on Saturday, October 28, against the REDBLACKS in Ottawa, before waiting to host the Eastern Final on November 11 at BMO Field.
