CALGARY — The Calgary Stampeders announced 16 signings on Tuesday, as the club’s rookie-camp roster takes shape.
Maalik Bomar (import LB): Bomar attended training camp with the National Football League’s Jacksonville Jaguars in 2013. He played four college seasons at Cincinnati (2009-12) and recorded a total of 223 tackles, including nine tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Max Caron (non-import LB): Caron was the Stamps’ second-round selection (16th overall) in the CFL draft earlier this month. The Concordia product’s accomplishments include Quebec conference and CIS all-star honours as well as the 2011 President’s Trophy as the outstanding defensive player at the Canadian university level.
Joe Circelli (non-import OL): Circelli, a third-round selection (25th overall) by the Stamps in the CFL draft earlier this month, was a second-team Ontario all-star for Western in 2013. He was part of a front line that allowed Western to lead the conference with 1,806 rushing yards.
Tyler Crapigna (non-import P/K): Crapigna was selected in the fifth round (40th overall) by Calgary in the 2014 CFL draft. In four seasons at McMaster, he kicked 60 field goals, 115 extra points and six singles for a total of 301 points. He was good on 34 of 37 field-goal tries over the 2012 and 2013 seasons. Crapigna had 11 punts inside the 20-yard line in 2013.
Michael DiCroce (non-import REC): DiCroce’s career at McMaster was highlighted by his 2011 season as he was a candidate for the Hec Crighton Trophy as the top player in the country after leading the CIS with 904 receiving yards in eight games. He made 48 receptions and scored six touchdowns as he earned first-team all-star honours in both the Ontario University Athletics conference and the CIS. He was also named the most valuable player in the OUA. He attended training camp with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2013.
DeQuin Evans (import DL): Evans spent the past three seasons with the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals, primarily on the practice roster. He played his final two collegiate seasons at Kentucky, amassing 43 tackles, including 16.5 tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks.
Damian Ford (import REC): Ford led Division II Stillman College in 2012 with 54 catches for 624 yards and nine touchdowns. He led the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conferece with 266 punt-return yards and two punt-return touchdowns in 2012.
Robert Holland (import REC): Holland played four seasons at Chowan University, a Division II school in Murfreesboro, N.C. He left the school as the all-time leading receiver, totalling 325 catches for 4,351 yards and 43 touchdowns.
Aldarius Johnson (import REC): In 34 games – including 12 starts – over three seasons at the University of Miami, Johnson had 62 catches for 765 yards and four touchdowns.
Brian Marshall (non-import FB): Marshall was selected in the seventh round (61st overall) by Calgary in the CFL draft earlier this month. A receiver at Western who will play fullback at the Stamps’ rookie camp, Marshall had 99 catches for 1,950 yards and 18 touchdowns in 26 games for the Mustangs.
Damon McDaniel (import REC): McDaniel played 15 games over two seasons at Hampton, catching 34 passes for 705 yards and five touchdowns. He played 10 games in two seasons at Florida State before transferring to Hampton. He is the brother of Stampeders slotback Marquay McDaniel.
Gerald McRath (import LB): In three seasons with the NFL’s Tennessee Titans, McRath played 40 games – including 12 starts – and recorded 120 tackles as well as 1.5 sacks and one interception. He was a two-time first-team Conference USA all-star selection at Southern Miss.
Darrian Skinner (import DB): Skinner played four seasons at Murray State. In 2013 for the Racers, he recorded 32 tackles, including three tackles for loss, one fumble recovery, one interception and five bass break-ups.
Quinn Smith (non-import DL): Smith was a first-round selection (seventh overall) by the Stamps in the CFL draft earlier this month. Smith was a two-way player at Concordia, playing both offensive guard and defensive tackle. During his CIS career, he totaled 68.5 tackles and 13.5 sacks.
Derek Wiggan (non-import DL): Wiggan was a fourth-round selection (34th overall) by Calgary in the 2014 CFL draft. He earned first-team conference all-star honours at Queen’s in both 2012 and 2013 as he recorded a total of 58.5 tackles and 11.5 sacks.
Craig Wilkins (import DL): Wilkins attended training camp with the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks in 2013. In 48 games over four seasons at Old Dominion, he became the Monarchs’ all-time leader with 340 tackles and was also first in tackles for loss, sacks, forced fumbles and fumble recoveries.
