MONTREAL — It was a busy first round for the Montreal Alouettes.  Following a pre-draft trade, the Als selected Chris Ackie and Jacob Ruby with the fourth and 8th overall selections in the 2015 CFL Draft.

The Als started the day by acquiring the 8th overall and 24th overall picks from Hamilton for offensive guard Ryan Bomben in a trade.

Montreal then took defensive back Ackie after selecting with the fourth overall in the CFL Draft.

Ackie’s athleticism was on full display at the combine, finishing first overall in both the vertical jump and broad jump. He also beat out all defensive backs in the 3-cone drill and placed third overall in the event.

Playing for Wilfrid Laurier last year, Ackie recorded 48.5 tackles, a sack and an interception in eight regular season games. He was named an OUA first-team all-star, a CIS first-team all-Canadian and appeared as a member of Team East in the East-West Bowl.

He was the highest-ranked defensive back by the CFL’s Scouting Bureau.

Their 8th overall pick went to OL Jacob Ruby.

The burly offensive lineman played four seasons at the University of Richmond in Virginia, earning All-CAA Third-Team honours and Second-Team VaSID All-State last year while starting all 14 games.

At the CFL Combine, Ruby placed third for offensive linemen in the 40 Yard Dash.

Ruby is an alumnus of the London Falcons of the Ontario Varsity Football League.
