WINNIPEG — In an off-season of excitement and anticipation in Winnipeg, something had to give.

The Bombers announced Tuesday they’ve released receiver Clarence Denmark and defensive tackle Bryant Turner, veterans that have been with the club since 2011.

“These are the types of difficult decisions that must be made throughout the offseason,” said General Manager Kyle Walters. “Both Bryant and Clarence have done great things for this organization both on and off the field for a long time now.

“The Winnipeg Blue Bombers sincerely thank both men for the dedication, hard work, and effort they put forth. We wish them the very best moving forward.”

The moves come barely a month after the Bombers made free agency’s biggest splash, signing Ryan Smith, Andrew Harris, Justin Medlock, Keith Shologan and Euclid Cummings within the first 24 hours. Those signings in addition to Weston Dressler made the Bombers a team to talk about this off-season.

Turner, a 6-foot-2, 279-pound defensive tackle, has recorded 26 sacks for the Bombers in 53 games. He’s forced four fumbles in his five-year CFL career and never recorded fewer than three sacks in any one season.

The 28-year-old Mobile, Ala. native recorded 17 tackles and four sacks for the Blue and Gold in 2015.

While Denmark logged the second-least productive season of his career in 2015, he spent his five years with the Bombers emerging as one of the league’s most reliable and consistent receivers.

Denmark has recorded 4,165 receiving yards in his career (833 per season) while missing only three games over five seasons. Last season he caught 57 passes for 718 yards and three touchdowns.

The Jacksonville, Fla. native turns 31 in September.
