TORONTO — The Montreal Alouettes have added size and strength to their offensive line, adding Laval’s Philippe Gagnon with the second overall pick in the 2016 CFL Draft.

Gagnon is known for his strength and a bit of a nasty streak, something he proved at the CFL Combine in March with 40 reps to lead all competition.

For him, a L’Ancienne-Lorette, Que. native, being selected by the Montreal Alouettes and going second overall made Tuesday night unforgettable.

“This is really special tonight,” said Gagnon. “Going to Montreal was the dream for any kid playing football in Quebec. It’s the ultimate goal for anyone watching football like me since when I was 12 years old.

“I’m excited for this beginning and whatever the future holds for me.”

A 6-foot-3, 317-pound guard, Gagnon is one of three highly-touted Laval offensive linemen on the board, the ninth-ranked player on the April CFL Scouting Bureau rankings and the third-ranked offensive lineman.
