Bombers add familiar face in Clarence Denmark

WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have a familiar face back in the fold, as the team announced Sunday that veteran receiver Clarence Denmark has been added to the practice roster.

Denmark spent the past five seasons with Winnipeg, hauling in 306 receptions for 4,165 yards and 16 touchdowns in 88 career regular season games. He was named a West Division All-Star in 2014 after registering 1,080 receiving yards.

Last season, Denmark had 57 catches for 718 yards and three touchdowns while starting all 18 regular season games. He was released by the Bombers in the off-season before joining Chris Jones and the Riders for 2016 training camp.

The move comes on the heels of some key injuries to Bomber receivers, including Ryan Smith and Weston Dressler. Dressler left the Bombers’ Week 6 victory with what the team is calling a lower body injury, while reports indicate he’s been spotted at Sunday’s practice on crutches (Ken Wiebe, Winnipeg Sun).

After a pivotal Week 6 road win over the Eskimos, the Bombers have no time to lose before taking on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Wednesday night on a short week.

There’s no definitive word yet on whether Denmark will play as the team eyes its second straight win following a 1-4 start.
