Riders release three including RB Matt Walter

REGINA — The Saskatchewan Roughriders have released Buddy Jackson, Bryn Roy and Matt Walter, the team announced Thursday.

Walter, a 27-year-old national running back out of the University of Calgary, joined the Riders in free agency this season after spending his first four years with the Calgary Stampeders.

He was a member of the Stamps’ 2014 Grey Cup-winning team, appearing in eight post-season contests with Calgary before being released back in February.

Another former Stampeder, Buddy Jackson also joined the Riders in 2016 after two seasons in Calgary. The international defensive back recorded 21 defensive tackles over six games in 2016.

Linebacker Bryn Roy, also a national, spent three seasons with Montreal from 2012 through 2014 before landing in Saskatchewan in 2016. Roy played nine games for the Riders over the last season.
