MONTREAL — Former NFLers Buster Davis and Jermaine McGhee were among the five players signed by the Montreal Alouettes on Wednesday.

Running back Remene Alston Jr., quarterback Paul Smith and receiver Reggie Smith also agreed to deals with the CFL club.

Davis, a linebacker, was a third-round draft pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2007 and later spent some time with the Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans. He recorded 24 career tackles in the NFL.

McGhee, a defensive end, spent some time with the Kansas City Chiefs (2008) and Buffalo Bills (2009) after playing for the Prairie View Panthers in the NCAA.

Alston helped Oregon reach the BCS Championship game last month. He played in 28 career games with the Ducks, recording 691 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on 139 carries.

Paul Smith spent one year on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice roster after becoming the all-time leading passer for the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes, where he passed for 10,936 yards and threw 83 touchdown passes.

Reggie Smith played 11 games with the Elizabeth City State Vikings in 2009, amassing 1,285 combined yards and a 20.2 punt-return average.
