TORONTO — As McLeod Bethel-Thompson readies for his second career start at the helm of the Toronto Argonauts offence, he will benefit from the return of slotback/running back Anthony Coombs who will see his first action since last year’s Grey Cup.

Coombs has been sidelined since the second week of training camp and will be a welcome addition to an offence that has lacked the shifty, underneath pass-catcher who can be elusive in the open field.

“We’ve seen what Anthony can do when he’s healthy,’’ head coach Marc Trestman told the Toronto Sun earlier this week. “He’s an outstanding route-runner, pass-catcher and great in the open field. He can run the football from a running back situation and he’s done a good job blocking for us in passing situations.”

A former first round draft pick, Coombs is about to kick start his fifth CFL season.  The running back-turned-slotback has 164 catches for 1,454 yards and three touchdowns in 51 career games.
