Augustine, Adams take first-team reps at Bombers practice

WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers had a different look offensively at practice on Wednesday.

Receiver Darvin Adams and running back Johnny Augustine were both taking first-team reps, according to Global 680’s Bob Irving.

Adams, 29, hasn’t played since Week 7 after reportedly re-aggravating an injury during the game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He’s coming off back-to-back 1,000-plus yard receiving campaigns and has had at least six touchdowns in every season with the Bombers. Through six games this year, Adams has 267 yards and three touchdowns on 20 receptions.

Augustine came in at the end of the team’s Week 10 game against BC and had 25 yards on five rushes. On the year, he has rumbled for 60 yards on nine carries.

The Bombers could also opt to use Lucky Whitehead and Nic Demski in smaller roles out of the backfield. Both have been deployed in the run game to throw off defences this season.

Defensive end Craig Roh also returned to practice at his regular position, according to Bombers director of content Ed Tait. Roh was forced out of the team’s Week 10 game against the BC Lions with an injury.

Tait added that Running back John Santiago was also taking snaps with the Bombers’ offence on Wednesday. The 22-year-old signed to Winnipeg’s practice roster in July and is expected to see some reps on Sunday against the Roughriders.

The Bombers and Roughriders are slated to play in the 55th annual Banjo Bowl to kick off Mark’s Labour Day Weekend. Opening kick-off is set for 3:00 p.m. ET
