Toronto, ON – (October 27, 2009) – Romby Bryant, Justin Hickman, Jovon Johnson and Rob Bagg were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week for week 17, the Canadian Football League announced today.
The four players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.
Romby Bryant had a career game on Friday night against the Eskimos. Bryant led the Stampeders with career highs of nine receptions and 211 yards. Bryant made numerous big plays for the Stamps with five receptions for more than 20 yards and three for more than 40.
Bryant’s longest catch was a 47-yarder in the fourth quarter to help set up a one-yard Henry Burris touchdown. He had another big catch on the Stampeders’ next possession, hauling in a 46-yard pass to help set up another Calgary touchdown.
Bryant was acquired by the Stamps in a trade with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last month.
Justin Hickman dominated the line of scrimmage for the Tiger-Cats in their victory over the Argonauts on Friday night. Hickman put constant pressure on Argos QB Kerry Joseph, recording four tackles including three sacks in the victory.
Two of Hickman’s sacks came in the fourth quarter to help ensure the Argos could not make a comeback. Hickman sacked Joseph for losses of one, nine and 11 yards. Hickman now has six sacks this season to put him one back of Khari Long’s team leading seven in the category.
